IRVINE, CA, April 9, 2015 – EON Reality Inc., the world leader in Virtual Reality based knowledge transfer for industry, education, and edutainment, developed a Virtual Reality application in Singapore for the Neural Pathways Discovery Performance Unit (NP DPU) at GlaxoSmithKline, a global leading pharmaceutical film, to help visitors visualize their Medical Vision for combatting Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor function originates from neural signals that travel from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. In ALS, the neurons that control motor function degenerate and eventually die, causing the brain to lose control of muscle movement. Patients in the later stages of the disease may become completely paralyzed.

Ceri Davies, VP, Head of NP DPU described, “The 3D visual allows our clients the opportunity to explore the concept behind our DPU by themselves, providing them with an in depth insight into our approach that helps engage everyone in productive conversations right from the moment they enter our facility – it has noticeably changed the level of excitement and enthusiasm of clients to work with us.”

The simulation starts with a healthy 3D character, who slowly succumbs to ALS and shows the different stages of the disease. Through the use of this interactive application, visitors at the R&D unit are able to visualize GSK’s medicine vision for the treatment of this disease.

The user is able to view the destructive force of this disease on a cellular level and can view how ALS affects motor neurons and muscles. Additionally, the user can observe how ALS affects the patient’s entire body with the patient losing control of motor function in their limbs. Stereoscopic viewing on EON’s Ibench Mobile allows the user to explore the demonstration in a life-like immersive format.

“EON was able to deliver an innovative application with a quick turnaround time on EON Ibench Mobile. Working with GSK on this project helped us to push the boundaries of EON VR technology and deliver a complete solution to explain the GSK’s approach to combat ALS. This visual presentation makes it easier to understand the various stages of ALS and how it is cured.” adds Mr. Sridhar Sunkad, Managing Director of EON Reality Singapore.
