Allows users to attach contextual information and learning objects to locations in the world without the need for markers or beacons

IRVINE, CA, October 17, 2016 – EON Reality Inc., the world leader in Virtual Reality based knowledge transfer for industry, education, and edutainment, announced the release of EON Geo to bring markerless location specific Augmented Reality to the EON EON-XR Platform. With this addition, students, trainees, and workers will be able to interact with contextual knowledge in the world around them tied to GPS coordinates.

Real-time contextual information provided by both EON Geo and EON-XR injects knowledge into everyday situations. This “knowledge injection” allows the user to have access to the relevant information and training/learning materials when and where needed. EON Geo’s markerless approach to Augmented Reality, similar to Pokemon Go, turns any location into an opportunity for improved knowledge transfer. Using GPS coordinates and IOT markers, specified locations are turned into Augmented Reality points-of-interest which display AR objects when users approach.

“Augmented Reality has typically been tied to markers and beacons, which really limits how AR can be used in everyday situations,” said Mats Johansson, President and CEO of EON Reality. “With AR tied to GPS coordinates and IOT sensors, we can take knowledge transfer out into the world and attach learning objects to physical locations. Students, workers, and everyday people can use this technology to better their lives with real-time contextual information.”

College administrators can turn campus tours and new student orientation into Augmented Reality scavenger hunts. Field trips can now have a deeper level of learning than just the materials available on hand. Workers are able to be more efficient by seeing real-time data or instructions when they’re out in the field.

“Industries are continually fighting to replace experienced workers with new hires while looking to improve overall productivity and safety,” said Jan Kjallstrom, VP Product Development of EON Reality. “Technology like EON Geo is necessary to further enhance the productivity of workers, but also to improve safety in the workplace. Step-by-step instructions can limit errors and bridge the experience gap for newer workers. Real-time contextual data empowers workers to make correct decisions in the field as well as spot issues before they arise.”

By adding EON Geo into EON Reality’s Smart Worker and Smart Nation offerings, companies and governments can bring GPS and IOT based data to their workforce without the need for additional infrastructure. This will improve safety, lower response times, and increase overall efficiency. Detailed data from important equipment can also be displayed as workers approach beyond what the available gauges show.

Additionally, an Augmented Reality specific CMS will allow students and teachers to easily change the learning objects attached to specific coordinates or markers. EON Geo is part of the the updated EON EON-XR platform to be launched in the first quarter of 2017.
