Aquatronics Application to showcase the skills needed related to Water and Wastewater management and how to react to emergency situations.

IRVINE, CA, August 11, 2015 – EON Reality Inc., the world leader in Virtual Reality based knowledge transfer for industry, education, and edutainment, and Festo Didactic, the world-leading provider of equipment and solutions for technical education, are launching a Virtual Reality Aquatronics simulator at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015. This application simulates several Water and Wastewater scenarios in which users interact with a virtual water treatment plant, operate machinery, and perform emergency procedures.

Aquatronics is an emerging field that combines several fields of study, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, IT, Electrical Engineering, Economics, and Environmental, into a new basic profession that serves as a platform for all Water and Wastewater specializations. With potable water needs, greywater reclamation for irrigation, and reducing industry impact on water supplies, water and wastewater management is critical to many nations’ continued economic growth and the quality of life for their citizens.

Part of the simulation is the removal of the sand pump using a crane

“Due to different demands for water and wastewater based on a country’s perspectives and needs, there is a permanent need for specialists in these fields and therefore also a common understanding/language between the different fields,” said Daniel Gauch from the Festo Didactic Product Management Group. “By implementing Aquatronics as a universal reply for skills and specialities in the fields of water and wastewater, each country and their educational institutions can decide to further develop on specialities. Here we feel that Virtual Reality can play a key role in developing the necessary skills.”

In this specific simulation, users can virtually step into the shoes of an Aquatronics professional and respond to emergency situations. Tasks that a user is able to perform include: cleaning and reinstalling the water inlet sensor, operating the bypass sliders, lifting the sand pump using a crane, and working out the best way to fix the oxygen probe. Additionally, users can look over the entire facility from a simulated control room.

“Virtual Reality is a perfect fit for a discipline such as Aquatronics. Its synthesis of subject matter from several different areas of study lends itself to the ‘learn by doing’ aspect of Virtual Reality,” said Mikael Jacobsson, Vice President Business Development for EON Reality. “Together with Festo, we’ve been able to create an application that drives home the message about the importance of Aquatronics and showcases the importance of the profession in the global community.”

WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 will be where Aquatronics is first unveiled to the global community and introduced as an innovative profession that has a place in the worldwide educational system.
