Milano, Italy, November 8, 2010 – COMONExT announced a major investment to launch a new Virtual Reality Center which will be located in the Science and Technology Park (STP) in Lomazzo (Como), Italy.
Building on the key strengths of the Northern Italy region, the Center will focus on addressing the needs within virtual reality for local organizations focusing in the areas of industrial, design and education. Using the latest virtual reality and 3D technologies from EON Reality, it will offer a state-of-art platform and virtual reality services to the local industries, including furniture and interior design, textile, industrial equipment, appliances, medical, aerospace, automotive and energy. It will also serve the education sector by developing interactive 3D learning content for Italian schools and universities.
“The Interactive Digital Center will represent a point of excellence for Italy and nearby Switzerland for the development of VR solutions. It will be the first center in the region fully equipped with state of the art immersive and large size visualization installations open for use of industry and education,” said Giorgio Carcano, President of COMONExT.
The 12,000 sqm Science and Technology Park opened in May this year and aims to improve the local economy by promoting a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. The COMONExT STP is a member of the International Association of Science Parks (IASP). The Virtual Reality Center will benefit from this dynamic atmosphere and also from a highly strategic geographic position, in the small town of Lomazzo, halfway between Milano and Como, 20 km from Switzerland and 40 km from Malpensa International Airport.
The Virtual Reality Center will be part of the Interactive Digital Center (IDC) network and will become fully operational during the first quarter of 2011.
