He was speaking at an event to mark two years since virtual technology firm EON Reality set up a base at One Central Park, in Newton Heath, Manchester. The council boss told 75 international delegates and investors how the company had contributed to the local economy.

He said: “One of the ways it is growing is the contribution that EON Reality are not only making on a global level but the contribution they are making here in Manchester. As well as the products they promote it is the training that they are doing, their contribution will make sure we have the skills to continue to grow the industry.”

Another success is the company’s Innovation Academy which aims to train 100 people a year for the next five years.

The city leader said: “It is a clever thing really because EON Reality supply their own labour force and train them as well which is really very good news indeed.

“From my point of view it is an opportunity for a lot of young people from Greater Manchester to get the real industry-based grounding in what the industries of the future are.”
