EON Reality’s Interactive Digital Center (IDC) at the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology (SiMT) in Florence, SC, recently exhibited at the 7th Annual Capitol Hill Modeling and Simulation Expo on June 28, 2012 in Washington DC.  Organized by the Arlington-based National Training and Simulation Association (NTSA), with the cooperation and participation of the Congressional Modeling and Simulation Caucus, the event is considered to be the largest annual exhibition of modeling, simulation, and virtual reality technology in the Washington area.

The event featured 18 exhibitors, including EON Reality and SiMT who jointly displayed examples of how 3D and interactive simulation-based technology is utilized in the aerospace sector with maintenance training, and in the manufacturing sector for assembly line and production line training.  Modeling and simulation technology are rapidly moving into new areas of application, including cyber security training, emergency response and homeland security preparedness, a wide variety of clinical and medical training, as well as more traditional military and national security readiness. The variety and timeliness of the capabilities on display at the Expo testified this rapid expansion of the technology into all areas of human learning and training, as well as to the exciting developments that promise to soon erase the barrier between reality and Virtual Reality.

“The Capitol Hill Expo provided us the opportunity to engage and educate U.S. congressmen/women and their staff on some of the capabilities of 3D Interactive and Simulation based technology solutions,” said Mike Mazen Associate Director of VR Center at SiMT.  “It is critical our policy makers understand the power of this technology and to affirm that it is not some futuristic technology, but instead is being used today by leading companies in their perspective industry sectors.”
