KCTCS IDC Delivers a New Simulation-Based Precision Measurement Learning Module Using EON Reality’s Software
IRVINE, Calif., September 30, 2009 – EON Reality, the world's leading interactive 3D software provider, delivered the software to the Kentucky Community and Technical Colleges System (KCTCS) Interactive Digital Center (IDC) for the development of a new and cutting-edge education simulation-based learning module in the area of precision measurement training. The Precision Measurement Digital Learning Module addresses the use of tools such as imperial and metric micrometers, Vernier Calipers and Dial Calipers with an option for dial indicators in the future. The module addresses basis of shop math, fractions and the fundamentals of reading each tool.

During the simulation portion, where EON's software is used, the students apply his or her new found skills in an application that allows practice at reading precision measuring instruments. The KCTCS IDC created this simulation-based learning module to serve as an introductory resource for programs teaching precision measurement. Students can now learn to read micrometers and calipers outside of class or without the need for expensive equipment. Once they have mastered the concepts and theory they will then progress to using the actual tools to complete their knowledge and understanding.
In addition to the fundamentals, the application also has embedded assessment and remediation tools that will demonstrate in real time to the learner the differences between correct and incorrect measurement responses and the application concludes with an authentic assessment of mastery. Jamie Justice, KCTCS Director of Visualized Learning and Innovation, states, “This revolutionary approach to teaching the concepts of precision measurement in an immersive and engaging learning experience providing tremendous cost savings to training providers while providing a superior learning experience for the learner.” This training application will be an invaluable supplement to traditional training exercises. The KCTCS IDC is an innovation and learning center created to develop new and unique methods to support education and training needs in an ever-changing economic environment.
