EON Reality joins Lansing Community College inauguration of their new 3D Theatre and Production Lab
IRVINE, Calif., September 28, 2009 – EON Reality, the world's leading interactive 3D software provider, had the opportunity to present and provide technology demonstrations of interactive Simulation-Based Learning (SBL) and interactive 3D (i3D) technology applications for multiple educational experiences at a Lansing Community College (LCC) Open House for their new 3D Theatre and Production Lab on September 17, 2009. Those presenting 3D visualization technology solutions were: Mats Johansson, CEO, and Marly Bergerud, VP Education Development, both of EON Reality and an EON educational partner, Jamie Justice of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS).
“At Lansing Community College i3D solutions will be initially incorporated, “said Judith Berry, Dean, Business, Media, and Information Technologies Division, “in the Art, Design, and Multimedia Programs where students will work as artists, modelers, animators, actors, and developers of course material to develop highly interactive three-dimensional multimedia courseware libraries to be used throughout media, science, healthcare, mathematics, and technical careers across campus." The new digital material will be designed for inclusion in existing and new programs for classrooms for all disciplines, for e-Learning and professional improvement, as well as to enhance marketing capabilities for Lansing Community College. “Further,” said Bergerud, “the implementation of these 3D technology solutions will also be providing Michigan business and industry a workforce with an enhanced skill set for the creation of visualization and simulation-based applications – content creation that is in high demand globally.”
“The examples of i3D in healthcare, automotive industry, construction, law enforcement and teaching are limitless,” said LCC President Brent Knight. “This cutting edge i3D learning experience will help prepare LCC students to pursue careers in informational design or as 3D simulation modeling technicians.”
Traditionally, educators have relied on traditional classroom tools (whiteboard outlines, physical demonstrations, PowerPoint lectures, and video) to facilitate learning. Jamie Justice, Director, Innovation and Visualized Learning, KCTCS, pointed out that, “Over the past decade, however, the convergence of interactive three-dimension, Simulation-Based Learning, and the Internet – have supplemented those traditional methods.” The following images depict some educational uses of i3D and SBL:
Judith Berry indicated, “The long-term goal of the college is to be a Digital Innovation Center for the Arts, Science and Technology (DiCAST) and to collaborate with other educational institutions around the country to design highly-interactive media to be used for training purposes in a variety of programs and industries with a goal of creating a self-sustaining learning environment.”
The newly built 3D learning environment at LCC boasts a 9 foot x16 foot screen, seating for 65, and a powerful sound system. The new i3D technology combines 3D computer graphics with sound, video, animation dimensional drawing, and human interaction creating a multi-sensory teaching and learning experience. A separate computer lab is available for individualized hands-on learning opportunities for students.
